This example reviews six water-cycle terms after students have encountered the ideas in a lesson. The clues are deliberately short so the crossword focuses on retrieving the term. Before generating, compare each clue with the wording your class uses. If your curriculum uses a different label for water gathering in bodies of water, replace COLLECTION and its clue together rather than requiring an unfamiliar answer.
Keep answers and clues separate
Give the assistant explicit answer–clue pairs. The puzzle tool arranges the supplied content; it does not establish that the clues are scientifically accurate. Check that each clue has one intended answer, that no clue accidentally includes that answer, and that the longest answer fits the grid. This example uses a 20-by-20 grid to leave room for PRECIPITATION and CONDENSATION.

Give students a few minutes to attempt the clues independently, then have pairs explain one answer using an example. For RUNOFF, they might describe rain flowing down a slope into a stream. For CONDENSATION, ask them to distinguish liquid droplets from invisible water vapor. This discussion checks understanding that a filled grid alone cannot reveal. Students who need support can keep a separate six-word bank beside the worksheet.
